Teachings from Me #4 (The Art of Moving On)

We’ve all come across people we wish we’d never met. The ones who came, became the light of our life and then departed, abandoning you to your surprise. The problem with us fragile souls is, we make them our everything and expect them to make us their everything too, which in most cases doesn’t occur.

And we are so engrossed in the process of making them our everything that when they leave, we’re shattered.  We cannot accept and digest the fact that some things aren’t just meant to be.

I’ve never really gotten to the point of making someone my ‘everything.’ No one was worth the risk, but I have the skill of placing myself into someone else’s shoes, so I can relate and empathise.

But hey, I’ve lost people too. Special friends and human beings whom I expected the most of. But fortunately, I’m in the process of mastering ‘The Art of Moving On’ and I’m becoming a pro at it.

You see, I think of them as chapters, chapters of a very long book called Life. You might have an urge to tear them and throw them away, but would you be the person you are today if it weren’t for those chapters? How else would your magnificent story unfold?

No matter how hard this may sound, they came in your life to give you something, if they didn’t reap any fruit then they gave you something more valuable instead-a lesson. They showed you exactly the kind of a person you’d never be with or befriend.

Lose those strings, cut them off and look towards other bright things awaiting you. There’s more to life than just broken hearts (so cliche). You’d never even make half the journey you’ve embarked if you keep looking backwards on the road.

It’s a bad phase, not a bad life. 🙂

Cheers!

  1. You may not know just how important your words are, no one may ever tell you how important your post is, but I’d like to tell you that today, they have made an impact on me. Thank you for this post.

  2. Mature words, hats off ma’am 🙂 I would just love to add a line to “The Art of Moving on” – To forgive is to actually move, but we must never try to forget the mistake as we need it to avoid that in the future.

  3. I have a tendency to let situations like that make me rather too melancholy, so this post was definitely needed for me. I tend to mourn those who leave rather than focus on the good times, or what I learnt about myself from the situation. Next time I lose a friend I will remember this post and try to treat it less as a trauma and more of a lesson. Thank you for posting this 🙂

  4. Tis true, especially when the person you are losing is your significant other. Needed a post like this. Though it’s not specially written for me, it still called out to me and helped a lot so thank you for this post Aakansha, it’s beautifully written.

    • AaKanshaaaaaaaa – sweetheart and very wise person! How did I manage without you, all that time I was away? I will never leave you for very long. All the time I’m away, I’ll carry a piece of you in my heart, until I return.:)

      • You see, you were never alone at all and neither was I. There was a connection that awaited for us to unite, until then we always felt each other’s presence, through our words. 🙂

I too shall carry pieces of your poetry with me wherever I go, to help me face this tortuous life and make my day a little brighter. 💗

  6. The last line ! The already wonderful post couldn’t be summarized more beautifully. Loved reading it and these words will definitely come to me when in need. I liked the way you compared people with chapters that when we complete a book, there are always some chapters which try to drift us away from the climax. But in the end, the book does get completed and we just laugh at those misleading chapters. An awesome read it was 🙂
